The Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race 2013 will start on 26 December and will be conducted on the waters of Sydney Harbour, the Tasman Sea, Storm Bay and the Derwent River. Over the past 69 years, the Rolex Sydney Hobart has become an icon of Australia’s summer sport. Participants from maxi yachts to weekend racers take part in this event, which starts from Nielsen Park in Sydney Habour and takes the international fleet 628 nautical miles to the finish line in the Derwent River, Hobart.
A true egalitarian event, the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race attracts yachts as small as 30-footers and as big as 98-footers, sailed by crews who range from weekend club sailors to professionals.
The Rolex Sydney Hobart Race 2013 is a classic long ocean race open to anyone who owns a yacht that qualifies for this challenging event and which meets all the safety requirements of a Category 1 safety race.
This year’s fleet will comprise of over 100 yachts, most of them originating from Australia. However, some participants come from as far as USA, Russia and Europe to compete in one of the world’s greatest yacht races. Discover more…
